Brighton five-piece Squid release ‘The Dial’ via Speedy Wunderground Records.
The Dial is new release by Brighton five-piece Squid, recorded by Dan Carey and released on Speedy Wunderground Records. It’s no secret that Brighton rivals London in it’s output of incredible new music, the city seemingly providing a more community-based setup for bands to develop and find their true sonic-self, and Squid seem to have benefited from this more natural musical climate.
The band’s new release channels Leeds post-punk specialists Gang Of Four‘s off-kilter, funk-infused guitar thrusts alongside a hypnotic krautrock groove. The vocals bounce between cooling moments of spacious whispers to harsher instants of uncontrollable rage, this is neatly in tune with the Brighton outfit’s ability to manipulate the tracks atmosphere from light to dark in a heartbeat.
