Arriving via their KGLW label, Melbourne legends King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will release three new albums this Autumn, the first of which will arrive on October 7th. The video for ‘Ice V’ is the first taste of their album ‘Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava’, a seven track effort with a run time of around 63mins.
Stu Mackenzie and co hit the studio without any pre-written tunes, using seven song titles that, “had a vibe”, choosing from hundreds saved on Mackenzie’s phone, each track name was paired with a beats-per-minute value with each song following one of the seven modes of the major scale.
Mackenzie notes, “We’d walk into the studio, set everything up, get a rough tempo going and just jam. No preconceived ideas at all, no concepts, no songs. We’d jam for maybe 45 minutes, and then all swap instruments and start again.”
Undoubtedly one of the most interesting and creative bands on the planet, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard embark on a mammoth tour of the USA starting in September. Their second album of October will be ‘Laminated Denim’, releasing October 12th, with their 5th album of the year ‘Changes’ arriving October 28th.
