NEW MUSIC | TV PRIEST | WORDS BY CALLIE WINCH
London-based TV Priest have released new single This Island, debuted by Jack Saunders on Radio 1, a track focused on the state of Britain in 2020. This single is the first from their first album Uppers which has been self-produced by the band’s own Nic Smith. The band’s previous two releases gained a buzz on the scene, with support from BBC 6 Music and multiple plays from Steve Lamacq, and there’s no doubting the new album won’t mirror this.
On the new release, front man Charlie Drinkwater says: “.. ‘This Island’ is about incoherence and inarticulate responses, both personal and political, in a time and place you don’t fully understand anymore. We wrote this to an increasingly nationalistic and isolationist drumbeat playing out at home and abroad, and frankly we are scared and appalled”.
TV Priest will be playing their first headline dates in October, catch them at:
27.10 – YES Basement – Manchester
28.10 – Shacklewell Arms – London
29.10 – Rough Trade – Bristol
30.10 – The Prince Albert – Brighton
