South London bedroom pop artist Pet Grotesque offers light in dark times.
NEW MUSIC | PET GROTESQUE | WORDS BY BRAD SKED
Lewisham bedroom pop artist Pet Grotesque has shared new single ‘Scratch’. Out today, the South London artist’s sun-kissed single is cut from an upcoming second album, a follow up to 2017’s ‘Good Egg’.
It sounds like Ariel Pink, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Tame Impala (‘Currents’-era) thrown into a cast iron disco-cauldron. Delving into elements of disco with a Balearic twist, Pet Grotesque’s ‘Scratch’ is a smouldering, sun-kissed and sultry summer smash. One for the late night rolled into early morning parties, this psych-tinged, disco pop ballad is perfect for one to lose themselves to.
With a funk-charged bassline plucked straight out of mid-noughties hip hop, and sci-fi-esque synths that dart through the cosmos attempting intergalactic communication, ‘Scratch’ evokes, and marvellously meanders through a multitude of genres.
Whether you’re dancing barefoot on golden sands or watching the orange stretch to red as dawn emerges, this is one itch you can scratch. Find the track on Spotify here.
