Silverbacks dazzle on video for ‘Muted Gold’.

The Dublin quintet explore their art rock nature on new video.

NEW MUSIC | SILVERBACKS | WORDS BY LAURA PEGLAR

Given Dublin’s central role in keeping the flag of the post-punk revival flying well and truly sky high, it’s undeniable that in recent years the indie side of the music industry has flocked to pay homage to the city’s humble streets. Being hometown to household names such as Fontaines D.C., The Murder Capital and Girl Band, it’s both challenging and thrilling to speculate which blossoming guitar band will step out next into the national spotlight. Dancing playfully on the outskirts of this genre entrapment are art rock five-piece Silverbacks, their latest single ‘Muted Gold’ providing a melting pot of sonic creativity.

With a gleaming set up of three spangly guitars matched with three diverse vocalists, the band are fully equipped to craft an experimental world of their own making. Sprinkling intricate and hook-laden guitars over its deep-rooted rhythm, ‘Muted Gold’ weaves it’s melody into a nostalgic blend of warm and fuzzy textures.

Echoing the lo fi traits of Julian Casablancas, Daniel O’Kelly’s scuzzy vocals are layered with infectious pixies-esque interjections from bassist Emma Hanlon. Working in seamless harmony, these elements combine to form a comforting blanket of soft, joyful sound which gently envelopes the senses.

Like gleeful children at play, we are captured in the mystical emporium of Silverbacks’ imagination and we have no desire to get out. ‘Muted Gold’ is cut from Silverbacks’ forthcoming debut LP ‘FAD’ out 17th July 2020 via Central Tone. If you haven’t already, it’s time to take note.
