The Melbourne artist channels The Beach Boys ‘Pet Sounds’ and ethereal folk.
NEW MUSIC | LEAH SENIOR | WORDS BY BRAD SKED
Signed to psychedelic fuzz megalodons King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard’s own Flightless Records label (also home to releases from the likes of The Murlocs, Babe Rainbow, Stonefield and Amyl & The Sniffers), comes Leah Senior with ‘Evergreen’ from the upcoming album ‘The Passings Scene’ due 12 June.
The arcadian sunshine stylings of ‘Evergreen’ is saccharine chamber pop amalgamated with ethereal folk to create a whimsical magic bus ride through an enchanted garden inhabited by the sun spirits. The Beatles mixed with The Beach Boys’ ‘Pet Sounds’ and the baroque pop perfection of Margo Guryan, the winsome wonderfulness of Leah Senior’s latest offering is evocative of a period before.
The video for ‘Evergreen’ is almost Wicker Man-esque, arriving ahead of the highly anticipated new album which will be Leah Senior’s third LP release on the forward-thinking Flightless Records – an apt name given the subdued, floaty nature of ‘Evergreen’ itself.
