Latest Council Records signees moa moa unveil their debut ‘Yellow Jacket’ ahead of debut London headline show.
London’s moa moa are the latest signings to Council Records (Talk Show, Scalping, The Wants). Their debut release ‘Yellow Jacket’ comes ahead of the quartet’s debut headline show.
If Unknown Mortal Orchestra made Arctic Monkeys ‘AM’, you’d have an insight into moa moa‘s debut track ‘Yellow Jacket’. The neat percussion and the riff-heavy strut of ‘Yellow Jacket’ leads you down a path of shimmering electro-pop groove.
Picking up where Parisian electronic duo Justice left off in 2007 with their ecstasy-laden debut album ‘Cross’, but channelled through a keen ear for a pop melody, moa moa make a statement of intent on their debut release. That intent being love-struck tales of mislaid romance through foot-pounding left-field pop.
Singer, songwriter and producer of moa moa James Ratcliffe mentions, “Musically, I wanted us to create something that mirrored the simplicity of the subject matter in an interesting way, which comes through in the contrast between the neanderthal rhythm and the more cutting, thick guitars.”
The band play their first headline show at London’s Paper Dress Vintage on March 18th, 2020. Details here.
