London’s Blackaby return with a swirling psych-tinged pop number in ‘Sweet Lemonade’.
In what to me seems like a match made in indie heaven, Rebecka Reinhard has joined Blackaby on vocals on their new track ‘Sweet Lemonade’. The new release follows on from singles ‘Paula’ and ‘Georgie Wants a Garden’, both superb individual tracks.
Coincidentally (or not) Blackaby will be opening and playing a special solo show for Rebecca Reinhard at her March headline show at Dalston warehouse space SET, fingers crossed for a live collaboration. Also on the bill, Bristol indie rock trio Dogeyed. Tickets here.
‘Sweet Lemonade’ balances the intimacy and delicate nature of folk with a swirling psych-pop underbelly. Finger picking guitar swims gracefully in the background as shimmering synths and then cleaner-sounding keys take centre stage through chorus and verse. Blackaby singer (and drummer) Will has a way with words, lyrically part patchwork, part emotionally piercing, and ‘Sweet Lemonade’ finds it’s path to a beautifully understated chorus.
The video seemingly walks us through a day in the life of Blackaby, a video shot with simplicity in mind. Rebecka Reinhard‘s vocal blends in and out hypnotising at every step and aiding the notion that Blackaby‘s ‘Sweet Lemonade’ has psychedelic properties.
