The Dutch duo tease their debut album with another heavenly slice of intimate and heartfelt dream pop.

Dream pop outfit Maida Rose are cut from heavenly cloth. The Dutch duo hail from the seaside city of The Hague, and create exactly the type of thoughtful and melancholic music that staring out onto a watery horizon brings. On the band’s newest cut Within, they further cement the songwriting partnership of Roos Meijer and Javièr den Leeuw. Meijer’s vocal presence is as magnetic as they come, and finds a perfect balance in the mix of their bass-driven and synth-laden dream pop sound, bringing to mind American acts Beach House or Cigarettes After Sex.
Over the last five years the duo have written and recorded in the attic of Javièr’s childhood home, and chose 2021 as the perfect time to introduce Maida Rose to the world, opening their account with touching singles Harmony of Heartache and Where Do We Go. Within was written as an ode to Roos’s girlfriend, she explains, “I feel like love has many shades and forms, and though the melody and lyrics of ‘Within’ fit well to these different forms, the energy and mood of being in love can differ from moment to moment. That’s why I love that we now have a version for both ends of the spectrum.“
With a self-produced full-length album being prepped for a 2022 release, you can guarantee that we’ll be hearing a lot more from Maida Rose.
