Welcome to London-based outfit Beige Banquet’s angular world. You will find jerky, jagged guitars, jilted grooves with fast staccato riffs and spikey repetition. Following the footsteps of a Devo-esque, drum machine-driven brand of post-punk, Beige Banquet offer AWAKE, the first single taken from their self-titled sophomore EP.
Despite being newly formed in 2020, Beige Banquet have made an impression on the London gig circuit. Building onto the foundation the band set with their debut Beta, nodding to art punks such as Uranium Club, the self-titled EP adds depth and texture to their chaotic soundscape. With a running time of under three minutes, AWAKE is a shot of cross-rhymical energy and overlapping spoken word vocals.
The upcoming EP was written and recorded by vocalist and guitarist Tom Brierley in his bedroom studio during the third UK lockdown and features collaborations with a cast of bandmates and friends, with clarinet by Theo Bergot, backing vocals by Joe Munsey and Benjamin Mace-Crossley and additional vocals and lyrics by Rosie Pearce. The EP will be released via Just Step Sideways Records on August 13th.
