Ugly – ‘Redemption, on the Road to Damascus’ – New young guitar hopes set to release 7″.

Cambridge five-piece Ugly are set to release a 7″ through Holm Front, the new label of London band Sports Team.

Supporting indie high-flyers Sports Team at their sold out September show at London’s Scala (alongside FUR), Ugly have been granted the seal of approval from the London band who have chosen the Cambridge quintet as the first release on their new label, Holm Front.

All too often, new young guitar hopefuls can merge into one in a bloated and male dominated punk/ rock scene, Ugly prove they have more strings to their bow than most, even at this incredibly early stage.

Upcoming release, Redemption, on the Road to Damascus, is a jagged and subtly raucous display of heartfelt, dreamlike indie-rock. Clocking in just under 7 minutes in length, Ugly channel their ramshackle rock brilliance into a sprawling, majestic piece of jangly indie-rock sweetness. However, there is dirt under the nails of the release, it’s youth and love dragged through the gutter.

It’s a different beast to their previous work, take Switch for example, a short, gorgeous 3 minutes 20 seconds of drifting indie guitars, tight-knit but somehow spacious, with a hazy build and gravelly vocal croon.

Released digitally by Strong Island Recordings (29/11) and on vinyl by Holm Front (10/12), two tracks will be found on the upcoming release The Last Supper at the Regal Wetherspoons and Redemption, on the Road to Damascus.

Alongside Human Pet and Lacuna Common, Ugly play a free headline show at east London institute The Old Blue Last Saturday November 10th. Info here.
