Barbudo release summer anthem ‘Secret Admirer’.
Summer is almost upon us; pasty skin has been turned a bright pink, Lidl has exhausted its stocks of cheap prosecco and Havant-based funksters Barbudo have delivered a song to soundtrack your alfresco sausage cremations. Having begun life as Paisley-shirted psych-pop enthusiasts in the vein of early Tame Impala, the core brotherly duo of Ben & Harry Stanworth have steadily injected increasing amounts of groove into their music, resulting in a rhythm section that’s now as tight as an ant’s arsehole and vocal harmonies to rival that of the Ohio Players in their prime.
New single Secret Admirer is a surefire hip-loosener. If you don’t find, at the very least, your booty twitching to its salsa-indebted rhythms, you’re either suffering from paralysis or completely deaf. This is without a doubt their most danceable song to date, a track designed to send dance floors into a frenzy of thrusting pelvises and electric slides. But whilst the onus has been shifted onto the interlocking bass and drums, the group’s penchant for exemplary vocals and melody remain as delectable as ever.
Don a pair of flares, sport a big-collared shirt and strut your stuff to Barbudo’s brand of erotically-charged funk.
