5 MINUTES WITH… SHOW BOY

New music, giant inflatable pumpkins and new release ‘Empress‘, we caught up with Show Boy.

You recently released the fantastic ‘Empress’, can you tell us a little about the story and process behind it?

Empress is essentially about the glamorisation of narcissism and the emptiness left when the glamour is stripped away. I wrote it after seeing the video for Pour It Up by Rihanna – a good example of the terrifying yet irresistible black hole of vacuity that is pop culture.”

You’ve announced a huge support show with HMLTD, I feel your music and stage show would connect really well with a large crowd on a big stage, what are your thoughts about it?

“We’ll have to wait and see! Electric Ballroom will be by far the biggest venue we’ve played, but the HMLTD crowd have always been very welcoming, so we’re excited to play.”

Do you have a favourite new artist/ what new stuff are you listening to at the moment?

“Right now I’m listening to the new Alaskalaska EP on repeat. Saw them the other night at Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club and they were great. Really interesting writing and incredible vocals. 5 stars.”

What would be a perfect Halloween for SHOW BOY?

“A perfect Halloween for us would always involve Benji (our bass player) agreeing to dress up in the enormous inflatable pumpkin costume he wore for our Halloween show last year. It was quite a spectacle. Hopefully it’ll make another appearance this season…”

How would you describe your live show in one sentence?

“Unfortunately, as the singer of the band, my greatest tragedy is that I will never get to watch myself perform live, and thus sadly cannot describe the sensation of attending a Show Boy performance. I have been told it is entertaining though.”

Show Boy live:

17/10 – The Lock Tavern, Camden w/ Dorian Electra

19/10 – The Windmill, Brixton

24/10 – Electric Ballroom w/ HMLTD
