Man/Woman/Chainsaw – ‘Get Up and Dance’

British art-punk six-piece Man/Woman/Chainsaw have stirred up further excitement for their upcoming debut album ‘Cannonball’ – set for release on August 7th via Fiction Records – with punch-packing new single ‘Get Up and Dance’. This is the first track to feature lead vocals from Emmie-Mae Avery, who performs over a swirl of brooding rock and dynamic violin flourishes. The song is described by Emmie-Mae as “set in a club, where you spot someone who’s been trying their luck with different people all night and decide to turn the game back on them.” A track brimming with emotion and life, this single is further proof of Man/Woman/Chainsaw’s immense promise and their well earned spot as one of the most intriguing emerging bands in the UK. Nina Winder-Lind – ‘Girls’

Marking the announcement of a debut solo album ‘Wild Love’ – due for release on 14th August via Transgressive records – the latest single from The New Eves’ Nina Winder-Lind offers the most triumphant, life-affirming, spiritually cleansing, soul-stirring and lyrically rich track called ‘Girls’ since The Dare. Building from simmering keyboard stabs into the sun kissed riches of threading guitar lines, cello bows and honking trombones, listening to ‘Girls’ beautifully unfurl itself towards a cathartic conclusion is not unlike watching the timelapse of a rose-bud bursting out into full bloom. Nina’s lyrics hit different too – she published a poetry book last year – mainlining straight to whatever part of your brain deals with the comprehension of profound wisdoms. “I didn’t understand that I was a flower / Until I was much older”. The stylish New Wave-style black and white video that accompanies the track is worth watching too. It’s filled with all the kinds of activities you’d expect a member of The New Eves to be doing: frolicking in the sea, shredding guitar in a naked room, chilling in the garden. Sword-fighting. (Elvis Thirlwell)

@ – ‘Autosmile’

Enigmatic philly duo @ (pronounced ‘At’ for any newcomers) have returned  at last with new epic single ‘Autosmile’, their first release since 2024 and inaugural offering via UK indie 4AD. Following on from the enchanting avant-folk stylings of their Carpark Records debut ‘Mind Palace Music’, the new single is a confessional near seven-minute sprawl of intricate acoustic guitar wizardry and anthemic lyricism that further expands their virtuosic lore. Campfire music for your misfit friend who’s secretly a wise old sage, @’s ability to draw upon and reimagine songwriting tradition is a rewarding, abundant listening experience full of magic and moments of psych-folk nostalgia. ‘Autosmile’ is the eponymous single from their upcoming new album, due for release on 16th October, which we can’t wait to hear more of. @ will also be touring in the UK later this year, stopping by London for a show at St Matthias Church on 18th November. Takeshi’s Cashew – ‘Operator’

Vienna’s Takeshi’s Cashew emerged in the heady pandemic days of 2021 with their criminally underrated debut LP ‘Humans in A Pool’ – a feast of cosmic funk and cumbia. The psychonauts, whilst still embodying these global sounds, have now taken their experimentation beyond our earthly plains with their psych-krautrock meets acid-jazz joy ride ‘Operator’. Akin to Neu! and Oh Sees when they’re at their motorik best, and coalescing the ambient-space-jazz stylings of Nala Sinephro or the seminal Mort Garsen, the whimsical mesmerism of  ‘Operator’ could accompany an intergalactic voyage through a wormhole leading further dimensions way beyond our mortal realm. Alongside the new single, Takeshi’s Cashew have announced details of their “psych medieval Nintendo Core” themed third album ‘Planet Odyssey 64’, due for release on the 30th October via Siluh Records. (Brad Sked)

Curbside Lambsear – ‘Man The Door’

Languid and adrift in this soupy heat, Curbside Lambsear’s ‘Man The Door’ yields to the summer inertia, slipping deeper and deeper into a flow state where equilibrium and surrealism softly entwine. The entrancing debut track from the London newcomers – a duo formed of Magdalena McLean and Annabelle Mödlinger of caroline and The Umlauts – adds another string to label-of-the-minute Scenic Route’s eclectic bow, subtle musical improvisations slowly unfolding atop stuttering 5/4 guitar loops and fleecy vocals. Psychedelia built for photosynthesising in the warm breeze, ‘Man The Door’ lingers in bucolic stillness; recalling the downtempo avant-pop of contemporaries like Tara Clerkin Trio, it makes for a tasteful, entrancing debut. (Hazel Blacher)

Maripool – ‘Crossing’

The ever-magnificent London DIY soloist Maripool has returned with ‘Crossing’, one of their most expansive offerings yet. Taken from their debut album ‘Rotten Luck!’ set for release on 28th August via Californian imprint Smoking Room, ‘Crossing’ sees Maripool blend her stellar songwriting craft with signature, honeyed lo-fi textures, making for an anthemic feast of 90s nostalgia. A swirling brew enriched with the indie-rock stylings of Pavement and the saccharine grunge-pop of Samia, ‘Crossing’s feel-good, sun-baked scuzz makes for a delightful dopamine hit. Maripool will be playing a few shows in celebration of their forthcoming record, stopping off in the capital at The Shacklewell Arms on the 4th October. (Brad Sked)
