Having signed to Californian label Smoking Room (home to releases from Island of Love, Hotline TNT); Maripool – the moniker of Lisbon-born, London-based one person indie-dream pop machine that is Natacha Simões, has returned with another brilliant shimmering ballad ‘not today.’

A melancholic lo-fi indie meets dreampop marvel, Maripool’s ‘not today’ retains the delightful DIY signature sounds that she is best known for. There’s a beautifully sorrowful charm to the London-based artist’s latest offering, capturing the almost strangling, angst-laden feeling of the wreathing humdrum that life sometimes presents. In a way, ‘not today’ sonically encapsulates the heady days of lockdown life that we all were once under.

On the meaning of the single itself, Maripool explains: “It’s a song about when everything around you is bringing you down. When the days roll into one another, nothing ever changing.”

As well ‘not today’ Maripool has also shared the news of a follow up EP to ‘It All Comes at Once’, with ‘a day that feels like nothing at all’ set for a June 7th release. Ahead of that, you can catch Maripool live at The Shacklewell Arms on April 8th.
