Arriving full throttle with fire in their bellies, Brighton’s latest export Shady Baby have shared their debut single ‘Come To Life’, a relentless indie rock charge with low-slung bass grooves and a ferocious mash of guitars. Vocalist Sam Leaver urges the track forward as his lyricism stings and intertwines with an instrumental backbone that nods to Britpop’s finest moments in its pop-leaning melodies and a knack for a hammering chorus section.
Leaver notes, “‘Come To Life’ is an angry response to feeling like people treated you like shit but you let them get away with it. Feeling both angry at them but also at yourself for letting it happen.”
The track disappears as quickly as it springs to life, leaving an anthemic shadow in its wake, Shady Baby’s charm arrives in its close to the chest storytelling and its cooing backing vocals. The newest Nice Swan Records signees take on the iconic 100 Club in London for a Nice Swan showcase on 19th June, alongside labelmates The Rills, Anorak Patch, and Saloon Dion.
