Momma join the ranks of those unearthing the grungy pleasure of 90’s alternative rock. On their new video for ‘Speeding 72’, which dials into new-found connections to the lost heroes of the alternative rock and grunge scene, dual singers/ guitarists Allegra Weingarten and Etta Friedman dig out a sweet spot between the ferocity of peak-era grunge and melodic guitar-focused pop songwriting. The video depicts the immediate friendships and romances born out of youthful and life-affirming connections at gigs, resulting in a sun-kissed joyride through the picturesque American suburbs.
“‘Speeding 72’ is probably the most collaboratively written song on the new record,” explain the band, “we wanted it to be the sort of summertime anthem that you can turn on during a drive to impress your crush.” The new single tugs straight on the heartstrings with reflective lyricism and guitar licks that ride you straight into carefree memories of misspent summers.
Off the back of live dates with indie hotshots Wet Leg, the Brooklyn duo make their first trip to the UK in May for a small run of headline dates before heading to The Great Escape festival in Brighton. Their new album ‘Household Name’ arrives July 1st on Lucky Number.
