In this glacial period of January, Los Bitchos have returned with a psychedelic-cumbia-surf cocktail to bring forth the good times. The jollification of new single ‘Pista (Fresh Start)’, which arrives ahead of the band’s debut album ‘Let The Festivities Begin!’ next month, maintains the quartet’s excursion into the realm of escapist fun.
Los Bitchos have been a figurehead in the revival of psychedelic-cumbia as well as instrumental exotic psychedelic sounds, which has been notably spearheaded in recent years by Texan trio Khurangbin. Los Bitchos could be the ultimate party band, and ‘Pista (Fresh Start)’ – the band’s third single to be taken from their debut LP – is a balmy serenade to the Latin sounds of psychedelic cumbia, generating visions of long hot summers and margarita ice lollies.
Standing alongside contemporaries such as Tropa Magica, The Mauskovic Dance Band and Takeshi’s Cashew, ‘Pista (Fresh Start)’s sun-drenched and sweltering instrumental layout is truly hypnotic, with the London-based band’s music video’s doing the talking. Their debut album ‘Let The Festivities Begin!’ will no doubt be the party album of the year, and a brief escape from all that surrounds us.
