Melby – ‘Reject’ – Tightly wound, psych-tinged dream-pop from Sweden.

Stockholm quartet Melby share swaying dream-pop nugget ‘Reject’ via Rama Lama Records.

British summer time is in it’s usual half swing, look no further for a track to soundtrack the steamy months ahead than Stockholm’s Melby and their new release Reject. The jangly and sun-kissed soundscape of Reject is the Swedish quartet’s first offering since 2017’s self-titled EP. It evokes feelings of tightly-wound sorrow and frustration, through a hazy veil of driving dream-pop bringing to mind a hypercharged Beach House.

The track, loaded with upfront human emotion, twists and turns as the shimmering guitar parts entwine with Matilda Wiezell’s spellbinding vocal culminating in a euphoric wave of freedom and acceptance. The unyielding underbelly of bass and drums provide a muscular platform for the vocals to soar and soothe, whilst the psych-tinged guitar lines of Are Engen Steinsholm pull the track into love-struck daydream territory.

The band took their first step onto the international live circuit with a show at London’s Sebright Arms this week as part of Swedish label Rama Lama Records’ showcase alongside Delsbo Beach Club and Chez Ali.
