Personal Trainer unveil the groove-led chaos of ‘Rug Busters’ ahead of UK tour.

At the time of writing this article I’ve watched the video for ‘Rug Busters’ – Personal Trainer’s superb new single – roughly 10 times. The music video looks like it was filmed in the lock up of the Dutch version of the Sea Scouts, a dusty life buoy ring hangs in the corner, next to it some waterproof-looking maps (presumably of the Amsterdam canal system) and in the background sits a campervan and what appears to be a jet-ski.

The foreground of the above mentioned video shows all seven members of Amsterdam outfit Personal Trainer in a choregraphed dance, shot in one beautiful take – it’s a bizarre yet very fitting backdrop to their new single ‘Rug Busters’. The track itself is a tightrope of groove and chaos, bringing a James Murphy-esque vocal sing/ squawk alongside an addictive group harmony – the guys know when to push and push and never over-egg the mix.

Lyrically it’s incredibly engaging and kicks with a tongue in cheek lyricism that benefits those who listen or watch multiple times. Personal Trainer start a run of UK dates tonight in Manchester, stopping at London’s Moth Club on May 17th.
