Joining Lilo on bass for their debut at the festival, Kitty Fitz gives us an access all areas report.

Friday
6:30am – I wake up in my house in Brockley after having a dream that me and my boyfriend have a cat. I ask him if we can get a cat. Quickly shower, get dressed and throw last bits in bags and run to get coffee and to meet at Anna’s house. Anna drops coffees on the floor. Helen arrives in a packed Corsa to this news, so we promptly head back to Broca to replace the coffees. They kindly don’t make me pay but in return I have to take the cardboard middle out of the blue roll for them so they can put it in the dispenser. Now we’re on the road!

12:17 pm – We stop at a retail park in Swindon to get groceries from Lidl and for me to search for some sunglasses in Boots (too expensive) and end up buying Berocca and gum instead. Armed with these plus our Lidl haul of choccy crepes, cereal bars, easy peelers and maybe 20 99p cocktail tinnies, we hit the road once more

3:04 pm – We have arrived! It’s raining and we set up camp ready to explore.
3:15pm – Watching Sorry in the big top whilst drinking previously mentioned Lidl Cosmo! Sarah Jessica Parker could never, although her hair probably wouldn’t already be greasy and untameable.
5pm – I invent the term “Welsh Shandy” For when the rain is falling into peoples’ open beer cans. I get at least 2 laughs and then we head to watch Jockstrap.
6pm – Helen and I grab an absolute firm festival favourite, Indonesian coconut curry! We then head for a nap (very rock and roll actually), acquire some tent fairy lights and head off to see Squid.

7.30pm – We head to watch Buck Meek (incredible) and Slow Dive (didn’t help that sleepy feeling I was still nursing) and then head off into the night to find hopefully some Madonna playing somewhere. Worth noting that it has been so torrentially raining the whole day that we are all considering the possibility of trench foot/body(?). Flashes of the Somme are definitely happening.
Saturday
10am – We wake up after tossing and turning through the scary rain and wind to some sun! I head for a shower in my Barbie slides and start to plot for the day.

12:00pm – Full of choccy crepe and nursing my head, we go to the far out stage to watch deathcrash.
3.30pm – I get signal and see that Liverpool are losing against Bournemouth. I put my phone back on airplane mode.
4pm – We run into Blood Wizard and persuade them to come to our set tomorrow, before heading with some warm rosé in my water bottle to watch Courtney Marie Andrews at the Mountain stage. I had wiped my boots of mud, but my efforts are now futile. I am glued to the floor not just out of my sheer awe for her performance. We then head off to see Anna B Savage at Far Out as our lovely friend Joe is playing drums for her.

7.45pm – I wake up from yet another nap to join my buds at Snail Mail! Then onto Josephine foster. After this I secure an iced coffee to prepare for Self Esteem and witness an incredible show, before heading to bed earlier than usual to prepare for our show tomorrow
Sunday
11:00am – We’re up and dressed early for a Saturday to catch the Women’s World Cup Final being shown in the Cinedrome. We think we’re ahead of the game by leaving the tent at 10:30, but by the time we’re there it’s absolutely packed and overflowing so we stand in the blazing sun outside. 23 mins into the game, the computer goes to sleep and we see the Apple login screen for “James Bryant” flash on to the screen. Shouts of, “Fuck’s sake James!” / “Come on James” / “Jaaaaaames” litter the air before the stream is restored. At 35 mins they lose signal on the stream completely and further pleas of “James sort it out mate” ensue, along with some booing. We then reach half time. Although I’m wearing a thick layer of factor 50, I am struggling.

11:56am – Stream restored to an uproar of cheers!
1pm – We lost, but with spirits high we head for some lunch.
2.30pm – I catch my favourite artist in the whole wide world, Christian Lee Hutson. I’m right at the barrier and it’s flipping banging!! When he finishes I’m walking back to the tent and see the entirety of the band I’m playing with hurtling in the opposite direction. I give myself the ick running after the buggy shouting them to wait for me, manage to get a seat on Helen’s lap and make it backstage all in one piece to prepare to play.

5.15pm – We play the most bangin’ set of our careers to a packed out crowd! The people are lovin’ it, the stage banter is flowin’, a man in the front at the barrier even dropped his phone mid set in which I will assume is bewildered awe and not just a case of the sweaty fingers. We all have a big hug after and I have a pack of crisps as a treat for my hard work.

7.30pm – As it is my Green Man festival tradition, we all head to the ferris wheel. It still looks as tired and on the brink of collapse as usual, but we give our money anyway and me and Helen hitch a ride with a litre carton of Lidl sangria in hand (don’t knock it till you try it). It gives me a new lease of life (trauma) and I am desperate to have another go but I let myself come down from the adrenaline and head to grab some food. We then watch Say She She whilst I inhale some teriyaki chicken bao and fries.

9.15pm – I’ll be honest, we’re back on that damn ferris wheel, this time with me clutching the sangria carton now filled with rosé and Helen on the bag out of the box of rosé.

9.30pm – Amyl and the Sniffers absolutely make my weekend, the energy is strong, the outfits are small and I book an appointment with a hairdresser to get a shag hair cut as a result.
10.15pm – To close out the weekend we go and watch First Aid kit, which is very sparkly and cheesy which I love a bit of. The Lilo girlies are big fans and it’s very heartwarming to watch them screech every harmony at the top of their lungs to our very quiet surrounding crowd. After this I promptly head to bed and prepare for the long drive home in the morning. No funny business for the Fitz. Thank you, Green Man.
Editor’s note: Liverpool ended up turning it around and beating Bournemouth 3-1.
