Nice Swan Records are on a roll at the moment. The London label have been consistently releasing music from some of the finest guitar bands in the capital of late, picking up Malady – as part of their monthly ‘Nice Swan Introduces’ series in collaboration with RIP Records – who have been making quite the stir across the capital.
Unleashing their captivating debut single London I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down, giving a nod to LCD Soundsystem’s New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down, the quartet’s debut is thought-provoking, indie bliss. Hints of dub and electronica seep through the beat-driven soundscape, while vocalist and guitarist Percy Junior Cobbinah croons about his native city succumbing to the negative effects of relentless gentrification.
Of the lyrical subject Malady state that, “The topic of the tune isn’t news to anyone but it felt necessary to document the confusion and sadness felt by how inaccessible and hostile the city is becoming to live in for most ordinary people.” Find Malady on Spotify here.
