Since forming in 2018, Gustaf have been putting in the hard yards playing shows around New York City. Amidst political turmoil and of course the COVID-cursed year of 2020, the Brooklyn outfit have emerged from the city’s talented underbelly winning. Before the release of their groove-ridden debut single Mine, Gustaf had already played with Beck – at a secret loft party thrown in celebration of his latest record – a sure-fire early sign of a promising future.
On the topic of their debut release Gustaf explain, “This song is about having a false sense of entitlement. Someone who feels attacked or like they’re being pushed out of their own world and not getting the credit they deserve. Someone with a delusional sense of self whose anger and frustration is humorous like the superintendent in a college frat movie.“
With a record deal recently inked – joining Pottery on Royal Mountain Records – and digital music finally arriving on-repeat-ready via streaming services, the quintet’s fearlessly punk yet danceable brand of art rock arrives at an opportune moment for everyone to blow off some steam.
