News that the Culture Recovery Fund – rallied by Music Venue Trust – has released new funds to keep grassroots music venues afloat with the ability to look towards 2021, is incredibly welcome. But, that’s not the only good news this week for grassroots music.
Fred Perry have teamed up with designer Nicholas Daley to offer a unique recording and promotional opportunity to UK-based unsigned artists. A panel of music industry personnel will judge track entries to choose an eventual winner for the grant. Judges include musicians Obongjayar and Nabihah Iqbal, Mixmag’s Head of Digital Seb Wheeler and DJs Zakia Sewell and Don Letts.

That is why during a time when the music industry is under great threat we decided to pull together and offer the music grant to support the next generation of musicians here in the UK. I have pulled together a diverse and experienced judging panel who will bring their expertise within the industry to select our grant winner and I am looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition.” – Nicholas Daley
The winner of the grant will receive a two-day masterclass with Metropolis Studios, the opportunity to record a track/ tracks within the studios (mixed/ mastered by Metropolis engineers), support with brand and campaign management, a masterclass in preparation and planning while utilizing full access to the Metropolis studio equipment and backline in recording.
Entries will be accepted from unsigned, UK-based artists from Monday 12th October to Sunday 25th October 2020. You can enter the competition for free here.
