The London newcomer is set to release debut EP ‘The Straight And Narrow’.

Last Friday Yaglander released the video for new single ‘The Straight And Narrow’, it’s a track that embraces the loose yet tight-knit grooves of post-punk originals The Fall or Wire, but this isn’t your average set up. The oddball pop synths of Ariel Pink and Arthur Russel mark the North London band’s sound making for gritty pop concoction that knocks twice before entering your eardrums.
The video for ‘The Straight And Narrow’ was shot between Walthamstow wetlands with old friend Nick Williams, and Nick’s flat. It was shot on a £30 Sony camcorder and with the broad theme of “aqua-karaoke”, the project fascinated by the idea of the underdog pop star – “a budget Brian Ferry!” remarks songwriter Joel McConkey. The video spearheads the release of Yaglander’s debut EP, out May 22nd, also named ‘The Straight And Narrow’.
The EP was recorded over Christmas in Joel’s sister’s old bedroom at his parents’ house, having left Cornwall with one eye on a move to London. The three tracks that form the EP represent his state of limbo at that time, the paralysing reality of dead end jobs, feelings of incompetence and envy as well as a desire to pursue his own music whatever the consequences.
