Bottling youthful romance through touching indie choruses, Living Island excel on ‘Whatever You Say’.
How do you bottle romance? Impossible surely. ‘Whatever You Say’ by London’s Living Island comes close. Music just seems to have that power. Despite the track’s lyrical content leaning towards the darker side of life, highlighting erratic thoughts and of course, cannibalistic tendencies, the band’s latest release somehow encapsulates the push and pull of love.
‘Whatever You Say’ lyrically could soundtrack an 50’s Spanish B movie, a horror flick of course. However, the addictive nature of Living Island‘s vocal melodies, and the use of their two talented vocalists (male and female combination) set them apart from the indie masses. The progressive bass grooves and stellar drumming aid the dramatic nature of the band’s high to low movements, euphoric pop moments aplenty, ‘Whatever You Say’ is a joy.
Sink into the slow-burning slacker pop of ‘Empty Fish Tank’, reminiscent of Australian romantics Snakadaktal, to witness another side to the London six-piece. ‘Hot Pink’ again shows the power of the shared vocals Living Island have in their arsenal, this time through a psych-pop lens. Sonically the band are a multifaceted indie pop beast, with enough tunes to make any show they play worth being part of.

Great review. ‘Whatever You Say’ is the most beautiful song about Cannibalism since The Stranglers ‘La Folie’. Deserves to be a top hit, pop pickers.
