Having sold out its first two years, East London Block Party is back in expanded form, this year brought to you by a collaboration of DIY Magazine, Omen Magazine, Still Listening and us here at Hard of Hearing. We will each be hosting a stage across four Shoreditch venues all within walking distance of each other – Colours, Old Blue Last, Strongroom and Dream Bags Jaguar Shoes.

At the top of the packed first wave announcement are the triumvirate of Y, This is The Deep and Tough Cookie. We’ve been wanting to catch Y all year, their recordings to date having been collected into the recent self-titled debut EP. This “wonk-rock” supergroup (featuring members of Fat White Family, Meatraffle, Pregoblin and Scud FM) is a blitz of dance and indie, dramatized by squealing synths and wailing saxophone. This is The Deep have long been favourites of ours at Hard of Hearing and have brought their magnificent orchestral art-folk to our own all-dayers in the past. Tough Cookie are another exciting prospect, having made waves since the release of their debut single in February. Recently signed to Capitol Records, their alt rock sound feels on-the-pulse but all the while shimmers with a certain instant-classic feel.

We can’t wait to welcome Blood Wizard back to the stage after his epic headline at our Sebright Arms shindig a few weeks back, his blend of vulnerable alt folk and thumping grungey indie a powerful pairing in a live setting. In its first two years, East London Block Party has built its reputation on picking out some of the best breaking live shows of the moment and throwing them together, introducing fans of one to the other. In that regard, this year’s festival looks set to deliver with the transcendent, posthuman electronica of sibling duo uh, Enjoyable Listens, who always converts a few instant superfans at his shows, and child3 who have recently developed a cultish following for their frenetic and noisy shows down around the small and sticky venues of London.

We are also excited to be bringing down Stoke psych-punk group Christian Music, who are turning a lot of heads right now, as well as the jangling post-punkers World News, as well as the box fresh math-rock group Lighthaus, who have been rapidly building a reputation since their debut shows this January. Capping it all off, we’ve got Dream Wife DJing to take care of the afters.

With many more artists still to be announced, this expanded edition of East London Block Party is already shaping up to live up to its growing reputation as one of London’s best new festivals. Tickets are on sale here, and you can follow @eastlondonblockparty for all the latest updates.
