Planners at the ready: this is going to be one busy weekend of music.

Now just over two months away, the call of Green Man grows ever stronger. The lineup for the 2024 edition of the Brecon Beacons festival has looked tremendous since the first drop, and now with the day splits in place, we can start planning our way through a packed weekend of great music.
Thursday starts strong with just two stages. Sleaford Mods headline the Far Out Stage that night, a perennial festival favourite and perfect for a high octane first night of the weekend. Before them, KOKOKO! offer suitable preparation with their pumping sound and homemade synths, playing alongside Third Man Records’ vaunted rock ‘n’ rollers Sheer Mag as well as Metz and Liz Lawrence. This one stage’s bill already sounds like a dream gig, so the complimentary bill on the Walled Garden stage from a mostly Welsh lineup including Das Koolies, Islet and Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog is the icing on the cake.
Friday starts the festival in earnest. Early sets from Opus Kink and Blue Bendy set the tone – you could be back in bed by 3pm and still have seen two of the best live bands of the moment. Getdown Services and Man/Woman/Chainsaw are standouts from the Green Man Rising stage while elsewhere festival favourites like This is the Kit and Beak> consistently delight. Parquet Courts’ A. Savage will be perfect for the relative intimacy of the Walled Garden stage, but those in search of something more intense may favour sets from Fat White Family or Personal Trainer. Contrasting these again, Arlo Parks joins the busy bill on the Mountain Stage, while Julia Holter provides an invitation to bliss out in the early evening. All this before attendees will have to pick between Jon Hopkins on the main stage and The Jesus and Mary Chain at the Far Out.

Saturday is crowned by another contrasting pair of great acts in the form of Big Thief and Osees, a pairing on hand to suit whatever your needs may be at that hour, the former channeling the campfire intimacy of the festival setting while the latter sounding more like a sonic representation of the explosive Green Man burning to come on Sunday night. Earlier in the day, the irresistibly fun Lynks warms up the Mountain Stage along with The Waeve (the brilliant collaboration collaboration project of Graham Coxon and Rose Ellinor Dougal). Tapir! return to the festival in the Walled Garden while newcoming favourites The New Eves debut on the Rising Stage. Ugly headline the Rising stage, complimenting the main stage appearance from Devendra Banhart. After hours, the Far Out stage has the pick of dancefloor-ready sets from Max Cooper and Sofia Kourtesis while the immensely popular all-star Talking Heads covers event Byrne’s Night makes its debut trip out of London and takes to the Walled Garden.
The entire weekend is filled with clashes of essential acts to catch and Sunday is no different. Opening with O., Lambrini Girls, Mannequin Pussy and Brown Horse sets the tone. Later in the afternoon, bar italia take to the Far Out stage along with the perennially compelling Blonde Redhead, while festival favourite Pictish Trail is on at the Walled Garden. Loose Articles and Big Special headline a busy night at the Rising stage, while Black Country, New Road return to the Mountain Stage ahead of Mercury winners Ezra Collective. All this before a triply stacked run of headline sets from Sampha, Explosions in the Sky and Model/Actriz, followed by the ritual burning of the eponymous Green Man. After all that, we’ll see those of you with any energy left on the dancefloor at Deptford Northern Soul Club.
