Known best for his blistering bass lines in punk-meets-jazz sextet Opus Kink, Sam Abbo makes his solo debut with the infectious ‘Pass The Fiddle To The Beast.’ Abbo takes on his familiar bass playing duties as he sings, but also plays guitar, cello, piano and claraphone on the track. He is further joined by Becca Wright on violin, Maisy Banks on backing vocals, Will Doyle on drums and Jacob Newman on additional bass, fleshing out the wonderfully freewheeling song.

‘Pass The Fiddle To The Beast’ finds its feet energetically dancing between being an upbeat indie sing-a-long and a honky tonk epic. The latter effect is largely established by the fiddle, which pops in and out of view all throughout the track. Expressive lyrics are conveyed with catchy melodies that traverse topics of alcoholism and the relief that can be found in making music.

Presented by his Opus Kink bandmate Jed Morgans’ label Hideous Mink, Abbo joins a diverse roster of artists that includes Alien Chicks, Black Bordello and Fake Turins. With the already highly anticipated debut record ‘Add To The Noise’ on the horizon, ‘Pass The Fiddle To The Beast’ is an exciting glimpse of what’s to come from the talented musician.
