‘Southbound’ is a blueprint for an innovative mixture of psychedelia and post-rock.

Ladylike formed in Brighton in 2022 and fully submerged themselves in the local scene, playing gigs together in order to develop their sound. Now in 2023, they have released their debut single, ’Southbound.’ This first showcase from the group explores that feeling of trying to find your place within society in your twenties, drawing on personal experiences as well as what the group have witnessed among their friends.

Beginning with a short thrashing intro, ‘Southbound’ quickly settles into the first verse. Lead singer and guitarist Georgia Butler delivers soft vocals over lullaby guitar and warm drums. The track is packed with peaks and troughs, instruments cleverly bursting forth and then hold back to accentuate shifts in tone. The thrashing intro comes back into play during the chorus, an effective call-back to the sounds at the very beginning of the track.

Having supported the likes of The Paranoyds, Rosie Alena and Divorce to name but a few, ladylike may have a promising future, this first release a blueprint for an enticing and innovative mixture of psychedelia and post-rock.
