End of the Road Festival with Divorce.

Fresh from the announcement of their new EP ‘Heady Metal’, Divorce recount bringing their pop-laced indie sound to their biggest stage yet.

Words: Divorce

9am
We leave Basingstoke Travelodge. The night prior we travelled from Maastricht, Netherlands, after playing Bruis Festival, so we are all absolutely exhausted. But we rationalise that a little delirium might make us play better, so we set off, stopping only for a heavily overpriced coffee and a small yogurt on route.

10:30am
We arrive on site at EOTR. We are greeted by many extremely tanned and good-looking staff, making us conscious of our weathered appearance. Everybody seems like they’re having a really good time too. A good sign. We collect our accreditation, bask in the sun for a minute and then head to our dressing room.

11am
We arrive at the Woods Stage dressing room. How did we get here again? Wet Leg are here. Act like we’re not starstruck. The dressing room is very nice and we have a lot of refreshments, and we all start getting into our stage attire. I (Tiger) get into my leather trousers and wig, which is perfect on the hottest day of the year. We all drink a coffee because it’s delicious and free and we all get very caffeinated and nervous.

12pm
We soundcheck. The stage is really big, it’s early and we’re a little apprehensive that no one will show up. But who cares! This is probably the biggest stage Divorce has ever played. Soundcheck flies by and suddenly it’s time to get off and enjoy ten minutes of respite before we play.

12:45pm
Showtime. The crowd is big, people have arisen and shown up, and they’re still coming. We start. The energy is ridiculous. We’re all sweaty and tired but completely ecstatic. There are people singing along, we even see one person crying to our slow one (A comedown maybe? Hopefully only due to our extremely upsetting noise). By the end of the set we’re looking out at so many people that it feels like a dream. These are the kind of things you hope for when you start a band, truly.

1:30pm
We get off stage, dazed and laughing. What a brilliant end to our first festival season. We couldn’t have asked for more.

2pm
We eat an enormous amount of pork and then go home.
