Singer Angus Rogers commanded the crowd as a natural born frontman, moulding them like soft putty in the palm of his hand.

Opus Kink performed their biggest London show to date celebrating the release of their new EP, ’My Eyes, Brother!’ on the 23rd May at Shoreditch’s Village Underground. Their sold-out crowd of modern bohemians dripped with sweat as they shook along to every note produced. Joined by Bishopskin and Saloon Dion in support – both mesmerising in energy and passion – it was a night which many will long remember, even after consuming a few too many beverages.
Lead singer Angus Rogers commanded the crowd with ease as a natural born frontman as he shaped, formed and moulded them like soft putty in the palm of his hand. He did not need to say much other than the odd thank you, the quality and fury of music speaking for itself. Intense synthesiser pierced over pounding drums, thunderous bass underwrote distorted guitar, and velvet smooth saxophone played off against vibrant trumpet as Rogers delivered his signature sepulchral rasping vocals throughout the show. The setlist represented tightly performed tracks from across the six piece’s virulently growing discography. Froom ‘’Til The Stream Runs Dry’ we heard tunes such as ‘Wild Bill’ and crowd favourite ‘St. Paul of the Tarantulas’. Material from their latest endeavour included ’Chains’ and an ear-bleeding rendition of ‘Dust’, which sent the mass of people into a whirlwind of hands and heads being thrown around.
Like an army on the march, the friendly crowd stomped away as Opus Kink cranked out song after song with intense liveliness. As if spellbound by the band, their fans crashed and collided amongst each other in good spirits, a familiar mosh pit hive mind. With hurried hand gestures, Rogers requested a circle be created amongst the crowd at some point towards the tail end of the show, before jumping into the middle. His slender form took on different shapes as he interacted with the multitude of people before returning to his band members on stage. Later on the lead singer ended up amongst the crowd once again, this time lifted around in well-deserved glory.
From beginning to end, the high energy delivered by Opus Kink was reciprocated by the crowd and the atmosphere was electric. Few people stood static as a feeling of unison formed, everybody all in it together witnessing a movement happening in the present before their very eyes.
