A sonic exploration that reflects a blinded and fractured society unable to recognise it’s own reflection.
The latest offering of shapeshifting and electrically-charged art-punk from Glasgow outfit comfort arrives on London label Slow Dance. The band’s 2019 record Not Passing is an exhibition of titanic, industrial-leaning and beat-driven explosivity. Their new single, Received Life, is a product of current political turmoil and a fresh voice in punk music.
Built within comfort’s January single Received Life is an instrumental atmosphere so eerie and unsettling that it appears momentarily off-putting, but that uneasy feeling marks the band’s political discontent and sonically seems to reflect a blinded and fractured society unable to recognise it’s own reflection. Received Life is also a bit of a banger, an alternative hit, in the same way that a fusion of ESG and Sleaford Mods would be madly interesting – certainly danceable – and seemingly made specifically for warehouses and sweaty, low ceilinged venues.
The Scottish group’s new release through London tastemaker label Slow Dance forms part of the Slow Dance 20′ compilation series, seeing the label release a new track every weekday from multiple artists until January 26th, when the full and genre-fluid 16-track compilation itself will arrive complete.
